Zillar Barta Desk, Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin paid floral tributes to freedom fighter and social justice icon Immanuel Sekaran at his memorial in Paramakudi on Friday, marking his 69th death anniversary.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, commemorated Sekaran’s contribution to the freedom struggle and his efforts for the educational, economic and social rights of marginalised communities.
Immanuel Sekaran is remembered as a prominent freedom fighter and social reformer who stood against caste discrimination and untouchability. Political leaders across Tamil Nadu, cutting across party lines, paid their respects at his memorial in Paramakudi on the occasion.
Several leaders highlighted Sekaran’s commitment to equality, social justice and harmony. Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan also paid tribute, recalling Sekaran’s courageous stand against social disparities and his efforts to promote unity and brotherhood.
The memorial observance was held amid heightened security and traffic arrangements in Ramanathapuram district, with authorities deploying additional personnel to manage the large gathering and ensure a peaceful commemoration.
The 69th death anniversary ceremony once again brought attention to Immanuel Sekaran’s enduring legacy and his role in India’s freedom movement and the struggle for social equality.
