Zillar Barta Desk,New York : American political leaders came together in New York on Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, in a solemn ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in Lower Manhattan.
Vice President JD Vance joined former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden at the memorial, where families of victims read the names of those killed in the attacks. The gathering brought together leaders from different political eras in a rare display of unity and remembrance.
Emotional moments marked the ceremony, including an embrace between American leaders in front of the memorial. The event focused primarily on remembering the victims, honoring first responders and reflecting on the lasting impact of the attacks.
The memorial ceremony featured seven moments of silence this year, including a newly added moment honoring people who later died from illnesses or injuries linked to exposure to toxic dust following the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the September 11 attacks, which involved hijacked planes striking the World Trade Center and Pentagon, while another aircraft crashed in Pennsylvania. Twenty-five years later, commemorations across New York, Washington and Shanksville continued to emphasize remembrance, resilience and national unity.
