Zillar Barta Desk,Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday appealed to Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani to expand investments in the state and support the government’s efforts to rebuild Bengal’s industrial and economic base.
The appeal came during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Adani Arogya Mandir, a proposed 2,000-bed hospital in New Town. According to reports, the project will be developed on 51.75 acres, with 1,000 beds intended to be provided free of cost to economically disadvantaged patients.
Addressing the gathering, Adhikari urged Gautam Adani to make further investments in West Bengal. He said, “Please come and help us make Bengal stand on its feet again.” The Chief Minister said the state has significant potential in areas including industry, minerals, waterways and infrastructure.
Adhikari also spoke about the proposed healthcare project, describing it as the beginning of a larger healthcare city in New Town. Plans for the facility include advanced medical services and further healthcare infrastructure, with the project expected to generate employment and support development in the surrounding area.
The Chief Minister attributed Bengal’s past industrial difficulties to previous governments, making allegations about the Left Front and the former Trinamool Congress government. These remarks were part of his broader appeal for fresh industrial investment in the state.
Meanwhile, Gautam Adani announced that the Adani Group plans to invest more than Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035 across sectors including ports, logistics, power, roads, bridges and data centres. He also said the group intends to make Bengal a major centre of its activities in eastern India.
The New Town hospital project and the wider investment announcement have put healthcare, infrastructure and industrial development at the centre of the latest discussions between the West Bengal government and the Adani Group.
