Zillar Barta Desk : U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump returned to the White House on Wednesday, September 23, after personally greeting Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Trump’s personal welcome at the military airfield marked the beginning of Xi’s three-day official state visit to Washington. The arrival ceremony featured a red carpet, military personnel and a flyover, underscoring the formal nature of the visit.
The White House said Trump and Melania are scheduled to host Xi and Peng for a formal State Arrival Ceremony on Thursday, September 24, on the South Lawn, State Floor and Rose Garden. The ceremony is set to include 479 military personnel representing all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, along with the national anthems of the United States and China.
The Trump-Xi meetings are expected to address major issues in U.S.-China relations, including trade, artificial intelligence and other areas of strategic interest. The visit comes amid continuing discussions between Washington and Beijing over economic and technological relations.
