Zillar Barta Desk, Muscat: Highlighting the longstanding economic and trade relations between India and Oman, an Omani businessman has underscored India's important role in meeting Oman's rice requirements. According to the businessman, Oman sources most of its rice from India, reflecting the strength of bilateral trade ties and the importance of Indian agricultural exports to the Gulf nation.

India has long been a major supplier of rice to international markets, including countries in the Middle East. Its established agricultural supply chains, diverse rice varieties and strong export network have helped Indian rice maintain a significant presence in the region.

The businessman's remarks also highlight the broader commercial relationship between India and Oman, which extends beyond food products to include energy, logistics, infrastructure, manufacturing and other sectors. The two countries share historical connections through maritime trade, with exchanges between their merchants and coastal communities dating back centuries.

For Oman, importing rice from India helps meet domestic consumer demand, while Indian exporters benefit from access to an important regional market. The trade relationship demonstrates how agricultural commodities continue to play a vital role in strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

India and Oman have continued to explore opportunities to expand bilateral trade and investment. Their geographic proximity across the Arabian Sea, established business networks and longstanding people-to-people connections provide a strong foundation for further cooperation.

The businessman's comments underline the significance of food trade in India-Oman relations and highlight how everyday commodities such as rice can contribute to stronger economic partnerships and closer ties between nations.
