Zillar Barta Desk,Imphal : At least 75 personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and three civilians were hospitalised in Imphal, Manipur, following a suspected mass food poisoning incident. The affected individuals reportedly developed symptoms, including nausea and repeated vomiting, after eating breakfast.

According to reports published on October 15, the patients were taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal at around 1 p.m. for emergency medical treatment. Hospital officials confirmed that all 78 patients received immediate medical attention and that their condition was stable. None of the cases was initially reported to be serious. <Cite refs={["turn890446search0","turn890446search2"]}/>

BSF Personnel Fall Ill After Breakfast

The affected personnel belong to the 58th Battalion of the BSF and were reportedly stationed at a temporary accommodation in the Lamshang area of Imphal West district.

According to initial reports, the personnel began experiencing vomiting and nausea after breakfast. Some reports identified the meal as puri and sabji, while others described it as aloo paratha. The exact food item responsible for the suspected illness has not yet been established.

Medical teams at RIMS provided immediate treatment, focusing on managing the symptoms and addressing dehydration caused by repeated vomiting.

Food Safety Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the cause of the sudden illness. Food samples were reportedly collected for laboratory testing to establish whether contamination was responsible.

The test results are expected to help identify the source of the suspected food poisoning and determine whether any food safety lapses occurred at the temporary accommodation.

Officials have not yet confirmed the precise cause of the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Patients Reported Stable

Hospital authorities said the affected BSF personnel and civilians were responding to treatment and remained under medical care as necessary. The incident prompted concern because a large number of people developed similar symptoms within a short period.

The immediate priority remains ensuring the complete recovery of all affected individuals and establishing the cause of the illness.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and laboratory test results become available.
