Zillar Barta Desk :Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s scheduled meeting with members of the Tamil community in London has been cancelled after the Metropolitan Police raised concerns about public safety and crowd management. The programme was planned near London’s iconic The Shard, where hundreds of supporters had gathered hoping to meet the Chief Minister.
According to Vijay’s team, the event could not go ahead because the necessary police permission was not available in view of the safety concerns. Many supporters had reportedly waited for several hours before the cancellation was announced, leaving them disappointed.
Following the cancellation, the IT wing of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), appealed to members of the Tamil diaspora not to gather outside the hotel where Vijay is staying or along his travel routes. The party said the appeal was made in consideration of public safety and the request of the London Metropolitan Police.
Vijay is currently in the UK as part of an official delegation seeking investment for Tamil Nadu. His office has said that agreements and investment commitments worth around ₹12,300 crore were secured during the London visit, with the projects expected to generate more than 9,400 jobs.
The cancellation has drawn attention because of the large turnout of Vijay’s supporters in London, while authorities prioritised crowd and public-safety considerations.
